Welcome to Middle Harbour Yacht Club E-News. The Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championship last weekend was a huge success - great weather on Saturday for racing, fantastic entertainment back on the beach with the Wolverines and then the rain came for Sunday - we hope you all had fun! A huge thank you to all our volunteers for their assistance over the weekend.
Christmas at the Club - Friday 17th December
Please note, due to lack of numbers, we have had to cancel the MHYC Musical Christmas Party this coming Friday night, 3rd December.
HOWEVER - instead, we have moved it to the Last Friday of the Month Entertainment night on Friday 17th December, 2010.
Live entertainment from 6.30pm as well as a choice of our delicious 2 Course Christmas special of Roast & Dessert of christmas pudding for $25 per person (Seabreeze menu will also be available).
Member's Badge draw at 8.00pm. Get together with friends and family for a fun night before Christmas. Bookings can be made through the office on 9969 1244.

Changes to the Finish Line
INTERIM RECOMMENDATIONS
The very strong SE wind saw 50 yachts finish in 15 minutes. Competitors found themselves finishing at speed, unable to slow down. With poled out headsails and mainsails fully out as a result their forward vision was obscured and this was compounded by the darkness and a heavy rain squall that engulfed the fleet after finishing. Farr 40 OD Sprint Series
MHYC is hosting the Farr 40 Sprints (Round 1), a pre-Worlds event, this weekend. Additional volunteers are required on the Course Area. If you are available to assist please contact the Sailing Office 9969 1244.
This is a great opportunity to see the Farr 40s in action and to learn the ropes of race management.

Kid's Christmas Party - Saturday 18th December
Bring the kids, grandkids, and friends along to the annual MHYC Kid's Christmas Party on Saturday 18th December, 2010, from 1pm - 3pm. The kids will be entertained by Bop Till You Drop, with a special appearance from Santa Claus, bearing gifts!

Know Your Cardinal Marks - Nighttime Recognition
In the last Memory Jogger we discussed the recognition of Cardinal Marks by Day. However, the dangers that these marks define don’t disappear at dusk so it is just as important to recognise them at night too.
Cardinal marks are distinguished at night by all-round flashing white lights. The pattern of flashing indicate the type of the mark, that is, North, South, East or West Cardinal Mark.
