Boating at Night - "Be Bright at Night"
Navigating at night requires special care and attention. Vessels operating at night, whether at anchor or underway must carry and exhibit the correct lights. It is crucial the lights on vessels are placed and displayed appropriate to the size and class of the vessel.
The objectives of this campaign are to conduct compliance checks of vessels throughout the State to ensure:
-
correctly displayed navigation lights on vessels
-
safety equipment, in particular lifejackets, are on board, are in good condition and are readily accessible in the case of an emergency
-
skippers have the required licence and/or certificate of competency
-
vessels meet registration/survey requirements

Members are reminded of the NSW Maritime regulations regarding Ship and Ferry Zones. A yacht shall keep a minimum of 200 metres from the bow of any Ship or Ferry, 30 metres either side and stern. See diagram above.

An interesting day was put on by Hughie. He tried to get everything in the one day. Light airs, big tide, some sunshine, a little light drizzle, storm cells and a heap of heavy rain with winds up to 20 knots.

The monthly Kid's Disco will be held in the Quarterdeck from 6pm-8pm. Bring your kids along for 2 hours of fun and dancing with Bop Till You Drop. $10 per child (includes drink & snack).

Sailing Clinic - GPS Chart Datum & Navigation
Guest speaker, Mark Prince, from the Australian Hydrographic Service will be speaking on GPS chart datum and navigation . Information essential for those sailing up and down the coast. Mark was also our special guest speaker at this year's Skippers Briefing.

Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championship
Entries Now Open

Entries are now open for the Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championship being held on Saturday 27th November and Sunday 28th November, 2010.
Click here for the Notice of Race and to enter. Free entry for MHYC Gillawa Sheild and Ocean Pointscore entrants (for those yachts in the OPS series who wish to compete on the windward leeward course may do so and apply for average points for its OPS races).
This year's event will see the reintroduction of perpetual trophies, as well as a number of fantastic prizes for individual place getters.
Those not competing offshore, the annual 7 Islands Race will be held on Saturday 27th November. A Clubhouse race taking competitiors to Spectacle Island and back. Click here to enter.
