Welcome to Middle Harbour Yacht Club E-News. Our New Member's  Welcome night last Friday night was a great opportunity for new members to meet our Flag Officers and find out what is happening at MHYC, as well as hear about the wonderful MHYC Yacht Rally to Turkey from Trevor of Mariner Boating Holidays. Harbour Trek & Women's Regatta Report

Hughie finally got his act together for last Saturday, with the wind from the NNE reaching up to about 20 knots and bright sunshine. The intrepid female fleet were out to compete for the Harken Ladies Day Trophy for all female crew and the Ron Hyde Trophy for female helm mixed crew, spinnaker. The rest of the fleet were competing in the Mount Gay Harbour Trek. All yachts we keen to win the great Mount Gay Rum prizes.

October 7-10 our sailors headed up to Pittwater for a four day event at RPAYC. The 7th and 8th was a training clinic which involved 45 Optis from NSW, VIC, QLD and ACT!

The monthly Kid's Disco will be held in the Quarterdeck from 6pm-8pm. Bring your kids along for 2 hours of fun and dancing with Bop Till You Drop. $10 per child (includes drink & snack).

Guest speaker, Mark Prince, from the Australian Hydrographic Service will be speaking on GPS chart datum and navigation . Information essential for those sailing up and down the coast.

Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championship
Entries Now Open

Entries are now open for the Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championship being held on Saturday 27th November and Sunday 28th November, 2010.
Click here for the Notice of Race and to enter. Free entry for MHYC Gillawa Sheild and Ocean Pointscore entrants. This year's event will see the reintroduction of perpetual trophies, as well as a number of fantastic prizes for individual place getters.
Those not competing offshore, the annual 7 Islands Race will be held on Saturday 27th November. A Clubhouse race taking competitiors to Spectacle Island and back. Click here to enter.

Help Save Natalie - Update.jpg)
Flying Fish's Andy Fairclough, his partner Natalie and their 15 month old baby daughter Elkie are facing a tragic situation and need your support. Natalie is suffering from an aggressive form of Leukaemia and the small family need to raise $80,000 to help pay for special travel with a medical escort for further treatment in Germany.
Andy and Nat have exhausted all the usual treatment options avaialble in Australia and are now hoping to save her life, by enrolling Nat in clinical trials for a new drug, taking place in Germany. Unfortunately Nat is too sick to travel to Europe as a normal passenger and a large amount of donated funds are being sort. If you feel you can help, read their story here.
Thank you to all who have responded to Andy and Nat's plight - they have arrived in Germany! Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

Radio Operators & Radio Licences
Most boat operators don’t realise that the use of Marine VHF and MF/HF radios for general radio communications requires operators to be licensed, and in some cases each radio set also requires a licence.
